Bioceanic Route from the Perspective of Economic and Social Indicators in Mato Grosso do Sul

Abstract

This article analyzes social vulnerability in the municipalities of Sidrolândia, Nioaque, Guia Lopes da Laguna, and Porto Murtinho, located along the Bioceanic Route in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The research is based on data from the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) and its three dimensions: urban infrastructure, human capital, and income and labor. The results highlight significant deficiencies in basic sanitation, waste collection, and urban mobility, as well as social fragilities such as school dropout, early pregnancy, and economic dependence on the elderly. Moreover, a high proportion of young people who neither study nor work is noted, further aggravating the challenges of productive inclusion. The analysis demonstrates that although the Bioceanic Route represents a vector for regional development, its effectiveness will depend on articulation with public policies aimed at reducing inequalities, strengthening basic education, and improving professional training for the local population.
